Spreading a Little Joy
Erica Gale and Dorothy Anderson have for years been attending local hospitals in friendship to entertain residents, patients and the elderly with sing-a-longs, story-telling and poetry reciting.
Erica has been entertaining on a volunteering basis now for 22 years, and for the last 14 years has been joined by Dorothy.
They attend in the sun room at the Bridgetown Hospital every Wednesday.
On a rotation once every six weeks they entertain at Boyup Brook and Pemberton and Donnybrook Hospitals, Geegeelup Village, Tuia Lodge, The Friendship Club in both Bridgetown and Manjimup, Moonya Lodge and the Bridgetown Library.
Dorothy recites poetry and tells stories which have a humorous theme. She also plays the spoons, tambourine and has a little drum kit to accompanying the singing.
“We play the songs our audiences know, we have them singing along with us, you can feel the difference we make.” Erica said.
For her volunteering work Erica was awarded the 2021 Bridgetown Senior Citizen of the year.
